Deborah Pfetzing, 43, of East Walnut Hills, a teacher and community activist, died of leukemia at Christ Hospital in 1997. 

Mrs. Pfetzing taught English literature at St. Ursula Academy for 20 years and had just begun a new position at St. Xavier High School.

In 1989 she received a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to participate in ''Shakespeare: Text and Theater'' in Stratford-Upon-Avon, England. She returned to England twice a year after that to participate in conferences with the Royal Shakespeare Co. and the National Theatre. She arranged for and conducted student trips to England annually.
